The basic rules – Wordify explained in 30 seconds

Wordify revolves around a single goal: guess the secret 5-letter word in a maximum of 6 attempts. After each attempt you receive color feedback telling you which letters are correct. The game ends when you guess the word – or when you've used all 6 attempts.

📋 Quick summary: Enter a 5-letter word → press Enter → evaluate color feedback → repeat – up to 6 times.

Step by step: How to play Wordify

The color system in detail

The most important element of Wordify is the color feedback. Let's explain each color type with an example. Suppose the target word is CRANE and you guess STARE:

S
The S appears gray – it is not in the target word CRANE at all. Eliminate S from all future guesses.
T
The T appears gray – T is not in CRANE. Exclude it from future attempts.
A
The A appears yellow: it is in the word but not at position 3. Try A in a different position.
R
The R appears green: correct position! R is at position 4 in CRANE as well. Keep it there.
E
The E appears yellow: E is in the word but not at the last position. Place it elsewhere.

Keyboard controls

On-screen keyboard

Wordify displays a full keyboard below the grid. The on-screen keyboard also colors already-used letters so you can see at a glance which letters haven't been tested yet, which are in the word, and which have been eliminated.

You type by simply tapping letters. The backspace arrow deletes the last letter. The Enter button submits your word.

Hardware keyboard

On desktop or laptop you can also use your hardware keyboard. Just type the letters on your keyboard. The Backspace key deletes the last letter, and the Enter key submits your word.

What happens if a word is not in the dictionary?

Wordify only accepts real, valid English words. If you enter a word that isn't in the word list, a short error message like "Not in word list" appears and your input is reset. You don't lose an attempt – you can simply enter a different word.

This means you can't enter random letter combinations to quickly test all possible letters. Every attempt must be a real word. That makes the game more challenging, but also fairer.

Daily puzzle vs. random game

Wordify offers two game modes:

The daily puzzle is the official word of the day, the same for all players worldwide. A new daily puzzle is unlocked every day at midnight. The daily puzzle contributes to your statistics and can only be played once per day.

The random mode lets you play additional rounds with randomly selected words. This mode is limited to 15 games per 12 hours so that Wordify remains a conscious daily ritual rather than an endless pastime.

How do the statistics work?

After every completed game, your results are saved locally in your browser. Via the statistics button in the game you can view your personal stats. You'll see:

Games played: The total number of completed rounds.

Win rate: The percentage of games you've won. A good rate is above 80%.

Current streak: How many consecutive days you've won at least once.

Max streak: Your personal record of consecutive winning days.

Sharing your result

Once you've completed a puzzle – win or lose – a share button appears. One click copies a compact, spoiler-free representation of your game as colored emoji tiles to your clipboard. You can then paste it into WhatsApp, Telegram, Twitter, or wherever you like – without revealing the target word.

Wordify on smartphone: Mobile mode

Wordify is fully optimized for mobile devices. The grid adapts automatically to smaller screens. On smartphones, the Wordify on-screen keyboard is recommended as it's tailored specifically to the game.

You can add Wordify to your home screen as a PWA (Progressive Web App). In your browser, tap "Add to Home Screen" – then you have Wordify like an app on your phone without downloading anything from an app store.

What to do if you lose?

No need to worry! If you don't guess the word within 6 attempts, the answer is shown to you at the end. Note it down, look it up, and you've automatically learned something new. Tomorrow brings another puzzle.

Most Wordify players lose less and less over time because experience teaches them which starting words are most effective and how to read the color feedback optimally. With a bit of practice you'll regularly guess the word in 3–4 attempts.
